AS Law

Subject: Law

Exam Syllabus: AQA 2160

Course leader: Mrs Miller

Welcome to the Art Department at APS!

The study of law will help develop your analytical ability and critical thinking. It also develops problem solving skills by asking you to apply legal rules to ‘real life’ scenarios.  Study at AS/A2 level provides a useful background for the further study of law either as the main subject or subsidiary part of a degree, foundation degree or for the many professional qualifications which have a law component.

To discover more about the subject at a higher level:

  • There are several magistrates’ courts around the Bristol area and a Crown Court in the centre of town.  What can you find out about cases on at the Crown Court over the summer?  If you can, use the court website http://www.thelawpages.com/court-hearings-lists/Bristol-Crown-Court.php  to find a case, read the judgement and briefly sum it up below.  Newspaper reports can also help you do this.  Did you know, you can also visit the court and sit in the public gallery to watch a trial?  This is free and would be great experience for the course if you find time over the summer.
